NFC North Draft & Roster Review 2025

It’s that time of the year – our annual divisional draft and roster review series is kicked off with NFC North! We’re breaking down every single player selected by each team, their role within the new roster – in combination with all the other offseason moves – and discuss what those glasses mean overall.

Undrafted free agents from 2025 who could make an early impact:

We’re now about one-and-a-half weeks removed from the 2025 NFL Draft, and after sharing all of my overarching thoughts – biggest winners, losers, steals and reaches – in a big recap piece I want to continue with the annual tradition of shining a light on a few players who didn’t actually hear their names called over the course of that weekend, but could be factors for the teams they signed with afterwards as undrafted free agents.

Once again, I chose six players on offense and defense respectively, but added one more name to keep track of for all 32 franchises at the bottom of the list. First, I will give some basic information on the prospects coming out of college, discuss some of their strengths and weaknesses, before I finish by explaining how they fit from a schematic sense and in relation to how those rosters are currently constructed, to provide an opportunity to earn a spot. Obviously, this is an uphill battle for all of these players because of the minimal resources invested in them, but they now have a chance to earn the attention of their new coaching staffs and carve out pro careers for themselves. A few noteworthy names that have made my list in the past – Bryce Huff, Ar’Darius Washington, Reed Blankenship, Tyson Bagent and Ivan Pace Jr.

Let’s get into this year’s version!

Most pivotal figures heading into the 2024 NFL season:

With the NFL season just around the corner, instead of bringing up storylines and figures about dominating conversations on TV already, I wanted to discuss a few names that maybe we don’t fully understand who they are or how big a factor they may be in a new role/place, but have the potential to define the landscape of the league.

Key position battles across 2024 NFL training camps:

With all veterans across the NFL arriving at their team facilities for training camp, it’s time to look at the most interesting and/or meaningful competitions for starting jobs. I want to describe what role needs to be filled – some more distinctly defined than others – with a quick summary of why the spot is up for grabs, present the candidates with some statistics to back up their case, discuss some schematic nuances and who I consider as favorites based on what those coaching staffs are looking for as well.

I settled on six position battles on each side of the ball, without repeating positions. Some of the them may be more critical, as we’ll get to in a second – while others may be more niche roles or at least could look as much, as these battles play out. At the very end, I added one more position group for all 32 teams, where there’s some competition to keep your eye on, listed by alphabet.

One burning question for each AFC team ahead of the 2024 season

In the second half of this little two-piece mini series, I’m switching over the AFC and ask myself “what is the one burning question I have for each team as I think about the 2024 NFL season?”

One burning question for each NFC team ahead of the 2024 season

Following my month-long divisional draft & roster review series, I’m back with a little two-piece project, where instead of diving into a bunch of individual players, I looked at each team as a whole and asked myself “what is the one burning question I have for them as I think about the 2024 NFL season?”

Most improved position groups across the 2024 NFL offseason:

After spending the last month reflecting on what the player acquisition process looked like for all 32 teams, with a focus on the names brought in via the draft, it’s now time to take a step back and identify the positional units that improved the most throughout this process, comparing the additions and departures at those spots.

This is purely based on the players that were brought in/let go from the point the 2023 NFL season ended onwards, not taking injuries into account. So you’re not going to find the Jets here for getting back Aaron Rodgers from the torn Achilles he suffered four snaps into his time with New York for example. Along with that, I like to take a broader look at this in terms of which position groups were stocked up best rather than just talking about a singular star performer they acquired.

NFL Free Agency

One free agent each NFL team should target for 2024:

We’ve arrived at the NFL offseason and while the new league year doesn’t official start until March 13th, the franchise/transition tag period was opened on Tuesday and we can already speculate on where pending free agents could end up.

So I took on the exercise of going through all 32 NFL teams listed by effective cap space, talk about some overarching decisions ahead of them and matched each with one player about to hit the open market!
