NFL Weekly Recap

Coolest things from NFL week seven (2025)

After brainstorming a few different ideas about videos I could work on, I decided to sort of combine them into a collection of the coolest things I saw across the NFL this past week – whether that’s the performance of an individual player, a unit or some schematic detail.

Key takeaways from all 2025 week one NFL games:

We’re one week down for the 2025 NFL season and as always, there was a lot going. Before we even had one snap from scrimmage, we had a star defender ejected for spitting at an opponent in the kickoff game, then a great AFC West quarterback battle in Sao Paulo, a Sunday slate filled with revenge stories, an early game of the year contender on Sunday night and another big-time comeback to close things out on Monday.

Understandably, there’ll be a lot of overreactions from what happened in these opening games, and while we saw more established players participating in preseason, there was still some rust to shake off, and defenses setting the tone in several matchups. Nonetheless, there‘s a lot to take away for now, as we get our first look at new schemes, rookies, units, etc.

I‘m going to outline three takeaways for all 16 games based on watching the broadcasts and/or tape afterwards. Therefore, these will obviously be rather subjective in terms of on what stood out to me, but I’ll try to encapsulate what matters most for individual players and teams here.

Let’s break it all down!

Three takeaways from each week one NFL game (2024):

Week one of the 2024 NFL season is in the books and before we even kicked off on Sunday, there was a lot going on, with last-minute contracts being finalized, star players getting handcuffed and more. For now, we‘ll focus on what we saw across the actual matchups however.

You‘re going to hear a bunch of overreactions based on what we saw in these opening games and especially with so many star players not taking part in preseason at all, there‘s a good chance many of them look very different the next time they step on the field. Nevertheless, there‘s a lot to take away for now, as we get our first look at new schemes, rookies, regrouped units, etc.

I‘m going to outline three takeaways for all 16 games based on watching the broadcasts and/or tape afterwards. So obviously these are rather subjective in terms of on what stood out to me, but I’ll try to encapsulate what matters most for individual players and teams here.

Three key takeaways from each week one NFL game (2023):

Every week of the NFL season there are a million things going on and it’s impossible to keep up with it all. So after watching the first full slate of games, I decided to outline three key storylines or takeaways for all 16 contests. These can be based around an individual player, coach, team unit or schematic nuance to track going forward.

Of course, week one can be liar and we shouldn’t overreact to anything we just watched, but based on where we stand right now, these are things that jumped to me across the league upon watching every game and trying to put them into context.

The seven sins of NFL week seven:

With Halloween coming up and the seventh week of games in the books, the theme of “the seven (deadly) sins” came to mind for me and I decided to take a closer look at the most recent slate of games through that lense. That way I would seven terms to describe how certain teams hurt themselves by committing those errors.

Analyzing the six biggest matchups from NFL week six:

Having already done a couple of big topics in video format, with the Bengals early-season struggles on offense and the Giants now 5-1 start, powered by Saquon Barkley, along with power rankings at the quarter-pole of the season, I thought this was the right time to kind of let readers into my world of tape study and really dive into the six biggest games from this past weekend. All teams involved in these matchups are now .500 or better, including some risers and what were labelled as championship contenders heading into the season, now at somewhat of a crossroads a month-and-a-half into the year.

Below, you can find my offense versus defense breakdowns when either team possessed the ball, along with some concluding general thoughts, from the following matchups: 49ers-Falcons, Vikings-Dolphins, Jets-Packers, Ravens-Giants, Bills-Chiefs and Cowboys-Eagles.

(Records listed are as of post-week six)

Three takeaways from each NFL week one game (of 2022):

Week one of the 2022 season is in the books and there’s a lot to talk about. Once again, I wanted to come up with three statements/discussion points for all 16 games. However, I didn’t just write about the stuff I picked up whilst seeing some plays pop up, but rather due my excitement for the NFL being back, I committed myself to really digging into the tape and statistics of every contests. That’s why this is only coming out on the day week two is already about to start again, even if I wanted it to be published earlier.

Now, week one can be a giant liar and we have to take everything with a grain of salt in the grand scheme of things, but I feel pretty strongly about some of these takeaways and believe they can paint a good picture on the league’s current landscape. I’ll talk about individual players, position groups and teams as a whole, trying to understand what we saw in this first slate of games and what it means going forward.

Let’s dive into these games:
